The Early Edge – Program Description

The Early Edge is a uniquely effective early learning preschool program designed specifically to focus on reading, writing, and math. It will work well in conjunction with any traditional preschool program or other activities your child is a part of.

    Goal

Your child will learn to read, write, and do math. Our desire is for your child to be confident and successful when they enter kindergarten or the first grade. We believe a strong foundation today will lead to a limitless tomorrow!

“In states that make it a priority to educate our youngest children…studies show students grow up more likely to read and do math at grade level, graduate high school, hold a job, form more stable families of their own. We know this works. So let’s do what works and make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind.”
—President Barack Obama emphasizing the need for high-quality preschools, State of the Union, February 12, 2013

    Methodology

The curriculum has been designed for active and interactive learning. It has been created to appeal to the young mind, referencing what interests them. We believe that at such a young age, learning is through play and play is learning. We believe that everything can be taught in a fun and nurturing manner.

Class sizes are kept small so that each child can be given regular one-on-one attention and encouragement. The children are motivated by each other and look forward to coming back for another fun class with friends.

We do utilize worksheets, but only as a supplement to our interactive learning program. The children are not expected to just sit still and learn. We involve both their fine and large motor skills; whether it be forming letters from play-dough or playing hopscotch to learn numbers.

    Scope

This scope reflects the goals of all our sessions.

The program will start with the very basics because we want to ensure each child has a very strong foundation with no gaps. The program is structured to progress steadily and systematically. All the elements are intermingled to provide quick results and hold student interest. For example, a good portion of phonics will be taught in conjunction with the alphabet itself.

    Children will be taught:

    Reading

    • To recite the Alphabet
    • To recognize the Upper and Lower Case Alphabet
    • Phonics – vowels and consonants, blends, digraphs and inflected endings
    • Sight Words
    • Reading – individualized to each child’s progress

    Writing Without Tears

    • To write the Alphabet
    • To write Numbers

    Basic Math

    • To Count
    • To recognize Numbers
    • To do Simple Addition
    • Dependent on readiness, members group may also be introduced to additional concepts such as Telling Time, Subtraction and Fractions.

Parents will be provided with Detailed Feedback and Guidance

In order for the program to succeed at the highest levels, parental support at home is essential. The program will proceed at a structured pace. We will keep you up to date with your child’s progress and will share with you exactly how to support your child to maximize their potential.

    Continuity Next Year

Based on parent interest, we plan on offering new programs next year that will pick up where this program ends.

The Early Edge Tuition, Fees and Specific Policies

    Registration Fee
A non-refundable registration fee of $75 will hold a place in class for your child up until August 1 when tuition/supplies fees are due for children starting in September. Since we offer such small class sizes, we need to confirm enrollment.

If all tuition and fees for starting in September are made prior to June 1, the registration fee will be waived by applying it towards the September tuition.

    Tuition:

    $299/month for the TTh program

Since this is a continuous program, the tuition has been equally divided over the course of the school year. However, parents pay monthly and there are no long term contracts.

A special exception will be made for the month of December where tuition will be: $199 for the TTh program

With teacher permission, new enrollments will be allowed throughout the year.

    All tuition payments are non-refundable.

    Tuition Payment Schedule:

Tuition/supplies fees are due by August 1 for children starting in September. Since we offer such small class sizes, we need to confirm enrollment.

Payments for October through June will be due by the 10th of the previous month. This means that the October payment will be due by September 10th. A $10 late fee will be assessed for every day that the tuition is not received after the 15th of any given month.

If payment is not received by the 20th, we can no longer hold a spot for your child for next month.

    Class Supplies Fee:

    $69/quarter

Due to the nature of the supplies needed for each student, supply fees cannot be pro-rated.
Initial fees are due upon enrollment, Winter fees are due in December and Spring fees are due in March.

    Personal Supplies Needed:

One 1.5-inch, 3-ring binder with pockets and 5 dividers.

    Water bottle

We will not be able to administer any medications during the session.

    Late Pick-Up Fee:

There will be a 5-minute grace period based on the clock in the entry room, after which there will be a $10 late fee assessed in increments of 10-minute blocks to be paid at the time of pick-up. Classes continue throughout the day, so we would really appreciate it if you are there on time.

    Teacher Absence:

If the teacher is unable to attend class, there will be a makeup class scheduled. If your child is unable to attend the scheduled makeup day, you will be provided with the material that will be covered.

    Damaged or Lost Supplies Fee:

A replacement fee will be charged for any borrowed materials that are lost or damaged.

    Rolling Enrollment Throughout the Year

With teacher permission, new enrollments will be allowed throughout the year. New enrollments after the first day of class in September, will be appropriately pro-rated based on the number of class days during the month in which they join. Students have successfully joined after the start of the school year.

    Withdrawal

Please provide us with written notification of your intent to withdraw and do not make the following month’s payment. So that we we may accommodate another child in your vacated spot, we would appreciate as much notice as is possible.

    Re-enrollment Fee
If you temporarily withdraw your child at any time during a given school year (e.g. by not making your next month’s payment) we will need to re-assess a registration fee in addition to the tuition when you re-commence classes. A supplies fee may apply based on when you re-enroll.
